The book arises out of first, experience in working with a group of young international scientists, and, second, from research done for the International Atomic Energy Agency on the past, present and future uses of nuclear propulsion and heating in space.

The novel is fiction though the locations are real. The science too is real and with political will the settlement of Mars too could be real.
