Igor Brabar was born in Budapest but he soon moved to be educated in Russia in the Moscow Lyceum and in St. Petersburg. Russia remained his base while traveling through Europe and spending time in Paris. These three paintings wre all painted in Russia in the period 1904 to 1905 while he was concentrating on landscapes.

For 12 turbulent years (1913 - 1925) Igor Grabar also directed the Tretyakov Museum.
