Pieter de Hooch

The Courtyard of a House in Delft 1658

Pieter de Hooch was an exact contemporary of Vermeer and he painted this scene in the same year that Vermeer painted the Little Street. The paintings have been confused although de Hooch clearly signed his paintings -- as carvings in the stone work. Here his initials and date are at the foot of the left hand entrance column.
