There
is a tendency to dismiss American painters as either being poor relatives
of the classic painters of the 18th century, or modern artists striving
to be different because they cannot emulate the best, or Western artists
who thought that the appearance of an Indian or a mesa on the canvas
was in itself art.
However,
there are some great painters who hail from the Americas
who at least provide motivation to look for others. Here are some.
