The lean kitchen has no stocks of food hanging above ... no drying meat or aging cheese. The kitchen is inhabited by thin people and the children are all asking for food. The baby now doesn't suckle at the breast ... instead it is being cleaned. At the fire, smoking takes the place of a glass of ale. It is not a happy scene..
