Although some texts portray Emile Flöge as Klimt's mistress, in reality she was his sister-in-law. Klimt's brother Ernst had married Emilie's sister. Thus, Klimt, was able to play the family friend in escorting Emilie to the theater and spending holidays with the Flöges without disturbing anyone's sensibilities. She was certainly his companion for the last 25 years of his life -- although -- they may never have been physically intimate
