Gustav Klimt

Danaë (1907-8)

The portrayal of the mating of Danaë and Zeus in the procreation of Perseus is
an erotic of image of Danae alone with rivers of gold flowing between her thighs.
Manhood is reduced to a nominal black block-line.

"Klimt passed off his most erotic paintings as scenes from mythology -- interpreted in the modern idiom. "

In this scene, "Danaë was th daughter of a King of Argos who shut her up in a tower where no man could reach her, until Zeus, the lustful and enterprising king of Gods, transformed himself into a shower of gold in order to enjoy her."
